Finding the right fit in therapy is a mutual process, and it matters more than you might think!
More often than not, in application forms or therapist discussions, we talk about "our ideal" clients.
This varies from therapist to therapist, as each may feel a good fit with different concerns, age groups, what works best with differing modalities, or what clients may be searching for. That's why I felt penning this down might help.

1) Facing the Complexities of Adulthood
You're an adult (ages 18-45) dealing with the multifaceted and complex challenges of adulthood—whether it's navigating life transitions or managing interpersonal relationships with romantic partners, friends, and family. You have had experiences of grief and isolation, and you grapple with existential questions. You wish to seek a better understanding of your emotions and what guides you in life.
2) Valuing a Collaborative Therapeutic Relationship
You want to build a collaborative and mutual relationship with your therapist. You’re looking for a genuine human connection, not an all-knowing entity. You appreciate different perspectives, enjoy a bit of humor, and relate well to analogies. You’re interested in noticing how your patterns may play out in real-time during our sessions. By exploring these dynamics together, we can uncover insights that may help you understand and shift how they show up in your relationships outside of therapy.
3) Open to being challenged
While you want to be heard and validated, you also feel ready to be gently challenged. You’re interested in examining your role in the dynamics at play in your life, while also understanding the broader systemic factors that influence you—whether it’s gender roles, social expectations, or the pressures of living in a capitalist world.
4) Seeking Depth and Understanding
You want to move past surface-level solutions and quick fixes (because let’s face it, therapy isn’t about that). You’re seeking deeper insights and want to understand the root causes of your concerns—how your patterns developed, what makes them persist, and how they’ve protected you. With that conscious awareness, we can move toward exploring “actionable steps” to create meaningful change in your life.
5) Exploring Your Life Scripts
You’re curious about how your upbringing, childhood experiences, and internal narratives—your “life scripts”—shape your behaviour today. You wish to unpack the beliefs and permissions, or lack thereof, that you’ve carried with you throughout your life. You’re perhaps interested in understanding why some patterns feel so instinctive to you.
6) Diving Deep into Key “Self” Areas
You're ready to take a closer look at your relationship with fundamental aspects of self, such as finances, your body, food, and time. You’re curious about how these relationships impact your overall well-being and eager to cultivate healthier, more conscious understanding of yourself.
If some of this resonates with you, let’s take the next step together. You can book a consultation call or a therapy session with me to explore this further.
